The livelihood of thousands of Kansans is impacted by the wind industry. We are citizens, landowners, construction workers, business owners, teachers and others from all across the state who have benefited from local wind energy projects.

Today Kansas is first in the nation in economic investment in wind generation, more than $3 billion dollars is being invested in 2012. This exciting designation stems from our abundant and robust wind resource, the ability to export power and the Production Tax Credit (PTC).

An all of the above approach to energy production has created a vibrant and diverse energy economy. For the best possible Kansas – we need longer-term policies that don’t encourage and then discourage new industries in alternate years. We need to support the development of alternative sources of energy, especially those involving a resource in which our state is so rich – the wind.

The PTC more than pays for itself through job creation, tax revenue and economic development in rural Kansas. Failure to extend the PTC will lead to thousands of jobs lost. It turns back the clock on progress here in Kansas as underscored by Siemens' recent announcement of layoffs at its Hutchinson facility.

Kansans know that a job is a job is a job, and that ANY project that brings jobs to our state as well economic security and a brighter future for our communities, deserves support.

Now more than ever, we need our political leaders to fight for our economic livelihood. Your political support for the PTC is critical for our economic future. Congressmen Huelskamp, Pompeo, Yoder and Congresswoman Jenkins, please join Governor Brownback, Senators Moran and Roberts in supporting extension of the PTC – help bring the Siemens employees back to work.

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to support extending the Production Tax Credit.
