In 1983 wolves were so scarce in Michigan due to hunters/trappers that they were placed on the Endangered Species List and had remained under federal protection until January 27, 2012.
Of course, not long after losing their federal protection came along a congressman trying to assure future votes from the extreme hunting organizations--Congressman Matt Huuki--and introduced a bill to hunt and trap wolves in Michigan--the bill, HB 5834, went to the floor this month and is on the table now--waiting in the wings for a vote.
If it passes the wolves of Michigan (of which there are only an estimated 400-450), will suffer the same fate as the wolves of Idaho and Montana.

The bill is now in front of the chairmen of the two above committees for a vote.

Please, politely but with sincere concern, speak for the wolves. As you know, no one listens to someone shouting or cursing ;)--vent to us fellow wolf supporters!
Tell the Governor's office and the Senators that you are disappointed that Michigan is going to follow the same path of "ill-management" of iconic wolves as has Idaho & Montana. Tell them that if this bill passes, you will have no choice but to withdrawn any plans of tourism in Michigan, and you will boycott all products and services coming out of Michigan.
Please call beginning Monday 9/17 to Friday 9/21 - call daily and repeatedly - have friends and family get on the line!
NUMBERS COUNT AND STUDIES SHOW THAT A PHONE CALL OR LETTER IS MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE THAN A PETITION OR EMAIL!

For those who can positively NOT call - please write a letter, not an email - Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, P.O.Box30013, Lansing, Michigan 48909
Senator Tom Casperson, Chair of Committee for Natural Resources--P.O.Box30036, Lansing, Michigan 48909
Senator Geoff Hansen, Chair Committee of Tourism & Outdoor Recreation--same address P.O. Box as Senator Casperson--P.O.Box 30036, Lansing, Michigan 48909
