I pledge to Create an emergency preparedness plan that includes my pets
Take the Pledge763 people took a pledge
September is FEMA's National Preparedness Month, which is intended to encourage us humans to get prepared for emergencies.
But if there was an emergency and you had to evacuate in 5 minutes or less, do you have a plan for your pets?
Unfortunately, we see it all the time on the news: Survivors of a catastrophic event saying those heartbreaking words, "I never thought this could happen to me."
Don't put yourself in that position. Take our pledge to prepare today, and create an emergency preparedness plan that includes your pets.

Everytime we have an emergency the animals seem to suffer the most...........so many people leave them home or tied outside, etc. Everyone who has animals needs an emergency plan.
A great idea.

Thanks for the sticker!
I too have been barking about awareness for pet safety during emergencies. If it's not safe for humans it's not safe for our pets. I believe "Pet Safety Awareness" is desperately needed throughout the United States and abroad. Where can pet parents take their babies (pets) in an emergency such Hurricane Sandy? It's terribly sad to say this but many of our babies are left behind when an emergency arises. WHY? because shelters that except humans Do Not accept pets. A part of me understands the...
…I too have been barking about awareness for pet safety during emergencies. A part of me understands the logic of this rule then again as a pet parent I don't understand because my pets are a very important part of my family, matter a fact they are my children. Having to leave my babies behind in an emergency would hurt my heart to no end. Just like human children pets look up to their pet parents for protection and security and many people do not understand the true bond that is created between pets and their pet parents. Maybe I am expecting too much but I would one day like to see several emergency pet shelters in each community throughout the USA and abroad. I would also likke to see alot more emergency responders that are specifically trained to rescue pets in an emergency situation. As human beings we have to remember we are not the only beings that walk this earth we share this earth with the world of animals as well. ALL animals are a part of GOD's creation and we need to be mindful of that and they too deserve to be pulled out of harms way in an emergency.
Thankyou!
Please don't just put a sticker on your window and think that's the end of it. Don't rely on FEMA, rely on YOU. We have more dogfood for an emergency event than most people I know have food to save themselves. Everyone get in gear, you never know what's around the corner.
Wherever we go Patches and Brownie go. As you can tell by our family photo they are our 4 legged children and we would NEVER leave them behind!
