Make a donation to California-based organization Children of the Night (a non-profit that help child victims of human trafficking), and help children who have been traded for commercial exploitation will have an alternative to the streets and a chance for a normal life.

The Children of the Night home, located in California, is open to child prostitutes throughout the U.S., and their hotline is ready and able to rescue these children 24 hours a day. Hotline staff works closely with law enforcement to rescue children from vile, dominating pimps. The organization's home features an on-site school and college placement program. After youngsters complete a rigorous and comprehensive program of academic and life-skills education, caseworkers are available to provide ongoing case management to hundreds of graduates. For more information on Children of the Night, please listen to this NPR piece: http://www.npr.org/2012/08/22/159754000/in-california-an-effort-to-fight-human-trafficking, or go to their website, http://www.childrenofthenight.org/.

This fundraiser is in memory of Chris McBride (1980-2005), an amazing man who was also a tireless advocate for those in need. Chris was the victim of an unprovoked attack on September 20, 2005, and died in the hospital 9 days later. For more about Chris, you can read an obituary written by his best friend at http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/2006/jan/13/obituaries.readersobituaries.

Thank you for honoring his memory through your generous donations.

As a way to say thanks and support this fundraiser, a small group of people are offering gifts, including an e-book for $20+ donations, an e-course for a $52 donation, and thousands of dollars of gifts for randomly selected donors. (For full details of gifts, please go to http://yaelwrites.com/2012/09/12/help-child-victims-sex-trafficking-win-prizes/. Anonymous donors are not eligible for prizes for obvious reasons.)

Thank you again for changing lives with your generous donations.

    Dear friends,

I can't thank you enough for your contributions to the Children of the Night fundraiser.

Your personal commitment allowed us to raise an amazing total of $1600 in just 18 days. Your support means so much to me but even more to Children of the Night. In fact, I received a phone call from founder Lois Lee herself to express her gratitude for the effort. Thank you from both of us.

Unless you donated anonymously, by now you should have received a personal message from me via facebook...

Unless you donated anonymously, by now you should have received a personal message from me via facebook thanking you for your donation (and letting you know if you received a gift.) Please check your "other" folder if we are not facebook friends. If you have *not* heard from me, please let me know, because there are still a couple of you I am trying to track down. I'm yael.grauer@gmail.com, if e-mail is easier than facebook.

Thank you again for helping to make a huge difference in the lives of these young children and helping me honor Chris McBride's memory.

    Best wishes,
    Yael Grauer

I just wanted to give a warm, heart-felt thank you to everyone who has donated to this cause. We have raised a total of $1525, with about 32 hours to go. I received a call from Children of the Night founder Lois Lee herself, asking me to thank everyone who has donated--so thank you, from both of us, and on behalf of all of the children whose lives your generous contributions will help change.

A quick aside--some people have donated anonymously, and I wanted to let you know that Causes.com...

So seriously, in fact, that even though I can e-mail anonymous donors along with people who took action publicly, I have no idea who you are. If you'd like to be eligible for the gifts which will be given to randomly selected donors, and you made an anonymous contribution, please just send me a quick e-mail or note (to yael@yaelwrites.com) letting me know who you are, so I can add you to the list before the deadline of midnight Central time on Saturday, September 29th.

Thank you again. Your support means the world to me.

    Best,

Posted by Yael Grauer (Campaign Leader) on Sep 26, 2012

Today I received a phone call from Children of the Night founder Lois Lee herself, and she asked me to thank everyone who has donated so far. So, thank you! Over $1500 raised so far and 75 more hours to go.

  4. Update #6

Posted by Yael Grauer (Campaign Leader) on Sep 25, 2012

We met our goal of $1500 four days early!!!! All of you are so amazing.

  5. Update #5

Posted by Yael Grauer (Campaign Leader) on Sep 19, 2012

We hit our goal of a thousand dollars! In fact, we're at $1028!!! Raising the goal to $1500; can we get there in the next 10 days?

  6. Update #4

Posted by Yael Grauer (Campaign Leader) on Sep 17, 2012

Thanks to your donations, we exceeded our original goal of $700! Since there are still 12 days in this campaign, I'm going to increase the goal amount to $1000. Please keep spreading the word if you feel moved to do so--and thanks so much for your help!

  7. Update #3

Posted by Yael Grauer (Campaign Leader) on Sep 16, 2012

Note: some people have said they've been having trouble donating, and I think this might be because causes.com makes you check a box if you do not wish to leave a tip, saying, "No tip." If you do not check it off, the donation will not go through and you'll get an error message. So if you wanted to donate but couldn't, try that and let me know if it works.

  8. Update #2

Posted by Yael Grauer (Campaign Leader) on Sep 15, 2012

Hi, everyone! We've now raised a grand total of (drumroll please!) $650! I'd love to hit the initial goal of $700 sometime this weekend, so please help spread the word if you can.

Next week, I'll be blogging a little more about human trafficking and what exactly Children of the Night actually does.

Who Chris McBride Was (And Why You Should Care)

I wrote a brief blog post about who Chris was and why he meant so much to me (and what he has to do with Children of the Night, after all)
