One in a million free school Bradford was due to open 3rd September 2012. This is a brand new school. The head and staff have worked tirelessly to make sure this school is open for the first intake of year 7 children. This is a great exciting venture and the staff children and parents are all looking forward to the opening in 9 days time. The government have now decided on the 24th August at 2pm not to fund this school. We want to ask the government to think this decision through again. It is so important to the children that this school is open on time for the children who have been given places and who are expecting to be starting their new journey in to upper school at One in a million.

My son James and others are expecting to be starting school in 9 days time. James has additional needs and there is not another school in this area that is suited to James needs. He had no social skills and does not like to interact with many people and the nearest school has 1,800 pupils on roll whereas One in a million would have 50 per year starting with only 50 this year. Then building up slowly to a maximum of 350 across all the years. He is not academic and is under average and the One in a million school is providing a safer environment with a curriculum that is suited to the needs of the children who need extra help and support. The enthusiasm and positive approach of the head and staff is above and beyond what we could expect from a larger school. This news that the Government has decided not too go ahead with funding this great school has come as an enormous devastating blow. Staff are expecting to start work in 9 days time will now be out of work. We would like to show the government how disgusted we all are with the decision not to fund at such a late stage in the academic year, when it is not possible now to look at alternative schools, get new uniform, sort out transport and child care.

Good morning 'One in Million ' supporters - the website's down, is there any other way to get info? In any case, this news is terrible for Bradford, and typical of what we can expect from the 'fat-cats' at westminster who just don't have a clue.

nick jones has not got his facts right and if he wants to know the right story he can face book or twitter me and i am happy to explain. it is certainly nothing the school has done wrong, they have complied with every thing the dfe has requested all through this process, this is disgusting actions by the dfe made worse by their silence, well we will not be silenced!

Hi all My Son Josh was going there, i recieved the Letter on Sat Morning, He now lives with me in Thackley, the School he Was going to before we got him into the school, was Whitcliffe Mount, we are now in a real predicament as Thackley to Cleckheaton is miles, and I have heard the Schools around us in Bradford are mostly over subscribed, it is also a Bank Holiday today in Education, so have made no progress there-A thought also goes out to the Staff who have lost there jobs at this difficult time!

Would be good to see this school open , especially for kids who don't 'fit ' into academic only schools....

we need this school, and need support to rally the government, how bad it is that these children are with out the school of their choice, teachers and other staff now out of work and who is going to dare to take the risk and be in my place or mr stockills place next year??

Seems totally baffling that the funding should be withdrawn at this late stage, with everyone looking forward to the opening; uniforms bought; teachers engaged; children and parents all organised. A rethink necessary, surely?

Give students a chance! Many get lost in the large school systems this is a thoughtless time to pull the funding and jeopardise the futures of these expectant children and staff. The work that OIAM have done for youth in recent years is testament to their hard work and dedication. This will be a significant investment Mr Government, put the funding back in place and watch the amazing results this school brings!

would you write that sentiment to mr gove or to nick clegg please

Kids like James need the extra support. As a High school teacher I see how some pupils struggle in a large school with too many distractions and teachers who have 30+ kids per class. Hope this works out well for you all.
