Ford Warriors In Pink, please add a Metastatic Breast Cancer Organization to your choice list when consumers are purchasing from your wear and gear apparel website. Metastatic Breast Cancer research receive's less than 3% of total funds collected from Breast Cancer donations nationwide. Please allow us to be a part of that choice as we desperately need the funding to cure Breast Cancer and to save those stage 4 women and men dying from it.

Every year October becomes Pink! Pink for the cause, Pink for the cure! Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer has no cure! This message is a fallacy! Over 40,000 women and men will die each year as the breast cancer in one's early stage morphed to stage 4 and spread to distant parts of the body. The message is clear-The Metastatic breast cancer community receive's less than 3% funding for stage 4 breast cancer research. 30% of breast cancer "survivors" will reach stage 4 within 2 years after treatment-these people are your mothers, your sisters, your wife, your daughters, your son's and brothers. Please safeguard their future and sign this petition to ask FordCares.Com to allow consumer's to have a choice as to whom they would like their purchase proceeds to go to and to include the choice for a stage IV metastatic breast cancer non profit organization to be added to the list of choice because all of our lives are depending on it.

Hi, my name is ________ from [city, state].

Cancer research saves lives. That's why I'm asking Congress to increase funding for cancer research.

Then, answer one of the following questions:

How have breakthroughs in cancer treatment or prevention impacted you or someone you know? Why do you want Congress to fight for more funding for cancer research?

With the billions of dollars being cut from cancer research funding, we are all painted into a corner and we will have no where to turn to-the majority of stage IV/metastatic breast cancer patients rely on cancer clinical trials and research studies to extend our lives and to help with palliative treatments and pain management care. Please do not allow your voice to go unheard for a loved one or for yourself, please do not let us die in agony and defeat!

I wanted to give the 14,341 signers and supporters of this petition an update as I am responsible for what happens on the back end of this petition after you have done your part; well, as promised, I forwarded the 12,500 + signatures that were collected between the start of petition until mid October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month) and also included in the package was a beautifully written letter by Noreen Fraser Foundation to be considered as a stage IV/Metastatic organization to receive much needed funds from the Warriors In Pink consumer's choice list when purchasing WIP products. I made 17 packets for each board member and I had it sent by priority mail to ensure that it made it there on October 13th, which is the honorary day for Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness but alas, all I have rec'd from them is a letter stating that they have rec'd the packet and they ensure that it will be given to the proper department. It is now January 19, 2013 and I have still heard nothing nor has NFF but I will not give up! My advocacy group has built a facebook page that is meant to bring awareness to the stage IV breast cancer patient's life and we are asking for your support-please go "LIKE" our page www.facebook.com/IMBCAPPP and donate any pink lapel pins and ribbons that you can so we can recycle these pins and ribbons into a thought provoking artistic collage that we can use to count the 40,000 women and men who die of this catastrophic disease each year. Our advocacy group intends to use this at protests, conference, and at public outings during May which is cancer research month and in October which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Also, if anyone has a personal story they would like to share on the facebook page, please email it to me and I will be sure to post it in the "Stage IV Stories" Album!
Please keep circulating the petition on your facebook pages as the goal is to keep pushing this petition at the board members of FordCares/Warriors In Pink until they make change! They are excluding a very important community in their goal to eradicate breast cancer, they are oppressing the dying population and we refuse to be written off! Thank you for your past and ongoing support!

"There are certainly advantages to becoming "aware" of something to the point of vigilance, and most of the existing breast cancer information has been confined to early detection. The inference is that early detection saves lives and that if caught early, the disease is curable. Now for the bombshell: this disease is not curable. Nearly 30% of those whose breast cancer is classified as "early stage" (Stage 0, I, or II) will eventually develop metastatic disease. A fair portion of Stage III patients will become metastatic, and 6% to 10% of all newly-diagnosed breast cancer patients have metastatic disease from the start. So the conservative estimated percentage of patients who will ultimately die from breast cancer is an eye-opening 34% to 40%. Metastatic disease carries a median survival of 3 years, and there has been no statistically significant improvement in the past twenty years.* Certainly nothing to gaily wave banners about.

Given that more than 1 out of 3 persons diagnosed with breast cancer will eventually die of it, it's time to pin awareness about metastatic disease to the October breast cancer message.

What is metastatic breast cancer, which is also referred to as Stage IV breast cancer? It's cancer that started in the breast and spread to other organs such as the liver, lungs, bones and brain. Today there are about 162,000 women - and men - living with metastatic breast cancer in the U.S. Some of them developed metastatic disease 5, 10, 15, or even 20 or more years after their initial diagnosis. Many are relatively young people in their 20's and 30s with growing families. Based upon 2011 estimates, approximately 39,520 women and 450 men are expected to die from metastatic breast cancer annually. The sad news is that this figure hasn't changed much since 2000 despite many years of "Breast Cancer Awareness."

Treatment protocols for metastatic breast cancer and non-metastatic breast cancer are fairly similar. These include chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, hormonal therapy, targeted biologic therapy, bisphosphonates, and/or other medications. The difference is that people diagnosed with non-metastatic breast cancer are treated for a limited time in order to eradicate their disease – hopefully forever. Conversely, people diagnosed with metastatic disease will remain on some sort of therapy for the rest of their lives, with a few possible breaks between treatments. Their treatment is considered palliative – it is meant to control the cancer and its symptoms while providing as good a quality of life as possible, but not to eliminate the disease indefinitely. As you might imagine, this can be devastating news to the newly diagnosed metastatic breast cancer patient.

Most metastatic breast cancer patients proceed from one treatment to the next when their disease progresses. After they have exhausted all of the available treatments - including clinical trials – they've arrived at the end of their list. This can have an absolutely demoralizing psychological impact, as it implies that there's no hope left. A simple but currently challenging option for these patients is to give them access to promising new but unapproved therapies. This is referred to as "compassionate use." Currently, compassionate use is legal but tightly restricted based upon criteria that can be terribly difficult to meet. Relaxing the compassionate use guidelines for metastatic breast cancer patients would enable them to undergo additional therapies that could potentially prolong their lives and well-being."

Let the voices of the "uncured" be heard too! So if anyone has a story to share-PLEASE post a brief summary in the comments section as I will be printing the comments out for Ford to read as well. I have been living with Metastatic Breast Cancer (stage 4) for 7 1/2 years now. It was my primary diagnosis when a tumor was found in my right femur. After many tests, tumors were also found in my spine and I was told that it was probably Breast cancer. I was 48 and in shock! How could this be? I needed surgery right away or my leg would fracture, so after biopsy in my breast and femur, the diagnosis was confirmed. After the surgery, I met with the medical oncologist to discuss my treatment plan and was told that there was NO CURE for what I had, just treatment to fight the cancer and palative treatment if necessary. I needed radiation to the spine and femur to alleviate the severe pain and I also started on the medical treatment plan.As friends and family were told of my illness, some would say, "oh, you can beat this" and I had to respond that I could fight the battle, but eventually the cancer would win. Yes, I am one of the lucky ones with er+/her2-, where the cancer is fueled by estrogen. This gave me options of anti-estrogen pills and a delay of actual chemo, for as long as the drugs would work. For me, that was 4 years when they then found liver tumors. Then I got my first chemo. During these 7 years I have also had spine fusion surgery when one of my tumors fractured a vertebra and contracted a serious jaw disease called Osteonecrosis of the Jaw, which was caused by one of my cancer treatments. Still, through it all, I am still here fighting, not only the cancer, but fighting for a cure. Not enough money goes to finding a cure for metastatic disease with too much money going to prevention. WE need to change this and I ask you to support our cause! Eventually, I will run out of treatments options and die. When you get to this stage in my cancer journey, treatments don't usually work for a long time, and time runs out. Give us a chance of longer life by supporting our efforts!

My original diagnosis was at stage IV at the age of 59. Four years and 10 months later at the age of 65 I am still alive due to the marvels of modern medicine. I am one of the lucky few, many many others have not been as fortunate and still others have succumbed to this horrid disease never realizing they had stage IV breast cancer. My survival does not come without a price..... life long treatment..... some not so bad..... some while prolonging life bring pain and permemant disability plus that ending nagging anxiety of.... when, when will that other shoe drop. Being stage IV reminds me of that movie " Dead Man Walking " like being on death row without an execution date.

Below is a VERY PARTIAL list of the mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers and friends who belonged to the breast cancer support group - INSPIRE. The
grou
p INSPIRE to which I belong is JUST ONE of the thousands of such groups throughout the United States and the world..... our losses continue to grow and the the numbers are not pretty.

Many of the women listed below did everything the awareness programs advised to detect breast cancer early..... had all the recommended tests and treatment.... but their names are none-the-less on this list.

WE NEED A LARGER PERCENTAGE OF THE PROCEEDS COLLECTED FOR BREAST CANCER DIRECTED TOWARDS ADVANCED AND END STAGE BREAST CANCER RESEARCH. WE NEED TO FIND A CURE FOR THIS DISEASE VERY SOON AS TO MY MIND BREAST CANCER IS RAPIDLY BECOMING EPIDEMIC!

Please sign this petition ! It is so important to women with stage 4 cancer. More research is our only hope!

So I believed her and went on to have a beautiful baby. I could still feel the lump in my breast and decided to get a second opinion. The second Dr did the right thing and had me go in for testing. I had a mammogram, but because I was still nursing it was hard for them to determine for sure but they thought it was nothing. They then sent me for an ultra sound guided biopsy. I had 3 needle biopsy and the results were it was not cancer. I was then referred to a surgeon. He wanted to remove the lump but since I was nursing and it wasn't cancerous, I asked to carry on nursing. He wanted to do a follow up in 3 months to keep an eye on it. When I came back he thought it had grown and wanted to do another biopsy. I agreed and that is when it all finally came back I did have breast cancer. I was rushed in for surgery and shortly after they did an ultrasound. That is when I found out it was too late and I was already Stage 4. So even though I found my lump early I wasn't taken serious by my doctor and all the medical testing let me down. So I find it hard to see all the funds we raise going to "early detection and awareness". If they put more funding into late stage researching we would have better drugs, with less side effects and perhaps a cure. I want to raise my children and not like this. I constantly have a noose around my neck and I never know when the floor is going to give out from under me. It's a brutal way to have to live, but our alternative is death! Please help us change how the funds are allocated and help us live longer.

Is it possible for you to drop it of at the school. I know you don't work there anymore. I am the biggestprocrastinator ever. :(

Great post Michelle...I think it important for you to share with us so others can relate and or learn of the challenges you and other women face in reality... We all want you to raise your three beautiful girls without always wondering about tomorrow. We love you.

I'M A SURVIVOR! THE MORE MONEY AVAILABLE, THE MORE PEOPLE WILL SURVIVE!

Joanne Richmond

Money doesn't equal being a survivor. Early detection isn't a guarantee that one won't have a recurrence.

Michelle Lister

It's true! Until they start trying to cure Stage 4 there is no cure. 30% of all Survivors will end up Stage 4 those odds suck!

I was 36 years old in 1999 with a husband, 3 children ages 9, 7 and 5, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. I did not have any family history of breast cancer and according to the "experts" had 0 risk of getting it. My OBGYN sent me for a 'Baseline Mammogram" as he called it when I turned 35, and when I finally went, I was told I had a 1.1 cm tumor, Stage 1 DCIC, and although it was invasive I had nothing to really worry about. I would have chemo, radiation and put on drugs that would lower my risk of it...

Then 10 years after my first diagnosis, in 2008, I was told the cancer spread to 12 of my vertebra, ribs, pelvis and tailbone. I was now Stage IV. I had been living in a "Pink World" thinking I had a cancer that is always cured. Everywhere I go I am bombarded by pink commercials, pink products, hospitals devoted to the pink disease and fundraisers for all the "survivors" of the pink cancer. Our family goes to the Detroit Race for a Cure. My children were living in a world of false hope of my never having it again. But my cancer is not pink. My cancer continues to spread and is now in my right hip and femur and my lungs. All the pink fundraisers in the world can't stop cancer from spreading, so how about we spend more money on metastatic breast cancer. I am not a pink 'survivor' I am a "Cancer Fighter"! I want to live longer. What color am I?

I survived breast cancer and I think that preventative maintenance is the best thing to do. All of my sisters including me have had the cancer - but we are researching the cause in our family - BRCA-1 BRCA-2. Please Please do not forget to get your checkups regularly! I pray for all who have any kind of cancer.

However at age 41 I was diagnosed with mets to every bone in my body that soon invaded my liver! Now at stage IV I soo desperately needed that support that I THOUGHT was there! However I soon discovered that there's next to nothing out there for stage IV all I seemed to get was alot of scared looks and a sorry your dying vibe from people.. I soon even discovered that most of the organizations I both raised and donated to for yrs.. only seemed concerned with spending on awareness (a bunch of pink pens n stupid bobbles that are usually thrown away).. Well now that I'm stage Iv my life depends on things like research and trials.. I wish a pink pen or a bunch of silly pink ribbons (i hate pink) would save me as id contributed lots over the years for them however they wont do a damn thing to cure this disease or fund my treatments.. I cant even get PET scans without paying for them on medicaid in SYR. N.Y. where I live but there's no organization to cover that either.. Shoot after being robbed from a career I loved due to the risk of bone fracture I'm not even a candidate for Cancer treatment centers of america or md anderson or any of the AWESOME places that could help me! Why because ive been reduced to public insurane and am apparently sopose to hide in the corner and wait to die, as god forbid they should use a strong woman fighting stage IV to represent breast cancer in any way.. Honestly a big majority of us soo called survivors are back within 10-15 yrs. looking a death sentence in the face.. But for some reason WE recieve very little support or attention and are alotted 1 lousy day in the month of Oct. to try to spread awareness while the other 30 days are filled with spreading bobbles awareness and early detection! Well I was diagnosed the 1st time in Oct. I got plenty of bobbles caught my cancer early and was DEFINATELY very aware! Now that I'm looking at 1-2yrs to live and worried I wont see my youngest graduate or my children married etc where's the support because I need it now more than ever.. Please help us by signing this petition to help change tis system that's set up to fail those that REALLY NEED the support and awareness.. Sorry so long thank you.. Tammy Louise Goff.

Tammy you post is AWESOME and exactly why there needs to be something done to raise not just awareness of MBC but also some freaking support! I was diagnosed inititally at stage IV 2 years ago at age 36. I've got 3 kids, my youngest only 18 months at the time and my doctor telling me I'm going to die, 2-3 years, blah blah and hands me a card for a support group and that's it. Really?! Anyway, there is a really awesome support group here on FB for those of us with MBC called the New Close Metastatic Breast Cancer Group (yes, long name...long story). You sould like you would fit right in!

Tammy Louise Goff

Cant find this group will keep trying ;)

I have many friends that are fighting and fought Breast Cancer.
