I pledge to adopt a homeless animal as my next pet.
Take the Pledge33,966 people took the pledge
An estimated 8 million dogs and cats enter animal shelters in the U.S. each year, and approximately 4 million – or 11,000 each day – are euthanized. PetSmart Charities strives to bring attention to the availability of pets at shelters and rescue groups and to the benefits of pet adoption.
Pet adoption is a critical step toward ending needless euthanasia. We partner with thousands of animal welfare organizations in the U.S. and Canada to help support their efforts in finding lifelong, loving homes for homeless pets.

Posted by Garrett Kravitz (Campaign Leader) on Nov 15, 2012Thanks again for supporting the fight to end pet homelessness, now that you've taken the pledge don't forget to invite your friends! PetSmart Charities is funding a new program called Fostering 4 Rock Stars that aims to double the number of kittens that animal welfare groups can save. The program, which is managed by the Cat Adoption Team, advocates for pre-adopting kittens before they're spayed or neutered. My Brewster was about 6 or 7 years old when we adopted him a year ago. Now he is my "BOO" and in his forever home. He replaces Lil' Man, and later there will be another rescue of an older dog that needs a home as long as I have a place.
One can Judge a nation by how it treats its animals and our nation by the looks of things is failing badly....come on these animals only want to give love....all you have to do is love them back.
Ha, I already have 2, can't remembar if they are 14 or 15 but they make the house a home along with Boo!
we always do.... every animal -- 3 dogs, 4 cats--- all rescued us....
Rescue is the only way to go!
true they rescue us!! have Bruno a male 3 year old dog who found us early this year -we live by a lake someone abandoned him earlier- guess he grew and grew and loved the water so perhaps it was not such a dastardly act -in the way existance panned out as there are v few dog shelters and facilities in India but we no longer shoot or euthanize strays as per law -which poses a huge problem of strays -dogs -over 40,000 in my city of pune alone.
All 5 of my cats were rescues
all my cats are rescued - Lisa Shaw I also have 5 :) lol - 3 of my dogs are rescued, the other is bought. But totally, all for rescued pets, we all need a second chance :)
I would love to have dogs but don't have the time and the 5 cats keep me on my toes as it is! :) Rescued pets are the best!! Thank your for rescuing yours! <3
Always have and always will!
I have been rescued by 7 dogs in my lifetime so far :D
Signed, shared.
I hear that!
All Of My Babies Are Adopted Or Rescues. They Love You For Loving Them! <3<3<3
We have adopted or taken in all but one (our very first pet). We were young and naive about shelters at that time. They have all been a blessing and a joy to have them in our lives! No one should purchase from a breeder or a store. Many lives need to be saved from shelters! Please do what you can ADOPT-A-PET!
Make sure feeding a stray is legal in your township. I got a warning.. then they came and set traps, couldn't let them starve. Mama and six kittens, we took one in. -- Please Adopt-A-Pet!! So Many Need A Loving Home!! I Got A Kitten We Named Cali & A Dog We Named Jesse. ALL Of Our Pets Are Adopted From A Shelter.. Please Help! (If You Can).. ******Also******

We adopted a pet from the kill shelter last year. Didn't want a pit bull or a puppy but that's what we got and he the most lovable pet we have ever had. He was five months old and didn't have but a short time to live. We are very happy with him he is 17 months old now.
