I pledge to adopt a homeless animal as my next pet.
Take the Pledge33,950 people took the pledge
An estimated 8 million dogs and cats enter animal shelters in the U.S. each year, and approximately 4 million – or 11,000 each day – are euthanized. PetSmart Charities strives to bring attention to the availability of pets at shelters and rescue groups and to the benefits of pet adoption.
Pet adoption is a critical step toward ending needless euthanasia. We partner with thousands of animal welfare organizations in the U.S. and Canada to help support their efforts in finding lifelong, loving homes for homeless pets.

Posted by Garrett Kravitz (Campaign Leader) on Nov 15, 2012Thanks again for supporting the fight to end pet homelessness, now that you've taken the pledge don't forget to invite your friends! PetSmart Charities is funding a new program called Fostering 4 Rock Stars that aims to double the number of kittens that animal welfare groups can save. The program, which is managed by the Cat Adoption Team, advocates for pre-adopting kittens before they're spayed or neutered. It's a "shelter without walls" concept: the kitten remains in foster care... … -

I adopted my girl Jinx back in March!!
all my animals that I have ever had have been adopted or rescues, so this is dear to my heart to see how many wonderful people care, and thank you Nora for always sending info to me about this cuz we both have the same feelings when it comes to these precious babies, momma"s and males love of animals will always take presidence in all I can to help.
Thank You Lauren! I have two babies also from shelters whom I love very much too! <3
I always throw food outside for animals, I can"t stand to see a dog or cat running around with just skin and bones. We have got a dog house and we pull it out from under the house , if we see an animal that needs our help.
We adopted our last one, a very abused female Boxer from a puppy mill breakup. She has been one of the sweetest, loving and appreciative dogs that we've ever had.
GOOD FOR YOU JIMMY, we are currently checking all the shelters for a new outside dog..poor dumpster had to be put down, had lymes disease, lord I miss him
I have two dogs and one cat at my home. they were picked up from the streets as pup. now one is seven year. other three year and the cat is one year old.

i also have two girl ferrets bubbles and buttons who are about 7 months old nd smokey is 10 months and buddy is 3 years old
I have had all kinds of animals all my life, from the injured ground squirrel to the garbage cat and abused dog that neighbors and friends would bring me. I actually bought a dog (for the first and only time) and she passed away last spring after 13 1/2 great years together, my sweet and faithful Cali dog. I am no longer in a position to foster animal, s but I decided I do indeed now need another best friend and will go back to the way it should be helping those who have no home and need someone to love them. I am looking for a dog in need.
my adopted dog is wonderful. I wont purchase a dog again after rescuing my dog from an overcrowded shelter. so many are disposed of due to overcrowding. unless you want a purebred for a show dog, there's no reason not to adopt!
I WILL, if there is a breed in particular I am after, pay for one with papers however, I wouldn't show it and unless there were people wanting a pup or a kitten, wouldn't have any intention of breeding. I don't think it is fair to breed a predigree animal if the reason behind it is to profit - it's not fair on the animal. We are not expected to so why should we expect our pets to? :) And I would STILL adopt a homeless animal too. :) I think it depends on the circumstances and what you are after. :) SO glad your dog has found a good home with you. :) We need more people in the world like you. :)
An I would only breed for friends and family and GIVE the puppy NOT sell. :)
Absolutely!
