The Mauritian Police Force has regularly been singled out by the UN Reports as using brutality and torture in extorting confessions by civilians suspected of crimes. In many recent cases, the most mediatised of which remains Michaella Harte's murder, they do not have the training, the skills or the technology required to be able to find enough evidence to cause culprits to be convicted and therefore murders go unsolved that need not remain so.. Please sign this petition to ask the Mauritian Government to modernise the police force and provide it with the necessary technology and legislation to be able to deal with crime. This is also to ask the government to implement effective watchdog institutions against police mistreatment, misbehaviour and bribes.
