Dundee City Council propose to close a resource centre which is used by people with learning difficulties. Some of the people who attend there have been using the service for over 25 years. The social work department have been using underhand tactics to force the closure of the centre. No staff will be affected by this closure but some of the most vulnerable people in our society will be massively affected. No consultations with carers or service users were held before this decision was made open

Update #13
Posted by Steven Laing (Campaign Leader) on Oct 30, 2012In a shocking abuse of power, the SNP voted to vote through the closure of Kemback Street ARC, despite passionate pleas from family members and national experts. Even evidence of untruthful entries on reports made by social work department were ignored by the SNP. All that is left now for those with learning disabilities is take what social work offer or no service at all. So much for the service users and their families having a say in their future. Despite this, we will keep fighting until we can do no more. Thank you for all your support

Update #6
Posted by Steven Laing (Campaign Leader) on Aug 16, 2012imagine this scenario if you will, your brother/sister/son/daughter has to attend a mandatory assessment by a government department to review the service that they get. Officials attending will be the assessor and a senior officer. Only the senior officer will attend all assessments and that officer will be sole arbiter of the outcome. Neither your family member or yourself has any right of appeal if you do not agree with the decision, so it is a case of take what is offered or have no...

Dundee City Council, time to start listening to the people on the ground, the people who voted for you, and whose taxes pay your wages.
Are they opening a new place that there doing this.
No they are not Bert, they are streamlining services only those with Profound and Multiple Disabilities are to receive day services all others are expected to access main stream activities/groups with support...not good :(
If you want cuts cut some of your wages.
I did my college placement here for 6 months and loved it, all I can say is that if it closes a lot of people who depend on this service will suffer. Shame on you DCC.
Well said Gill xx
its absolutely digracefull to close Kemback street one minutes its getting refurbished next its closing and after all its not a free service they pay for it so where's the money going?
