Tell World Leaders to End the Female Gendercide in India

To: The Government of India, The OHCHR, UNICEF, The UNIFEM, The UNFPA, CEDAW, The EU and The G8

We the undersigned, strongly condemn the practices that have led to the elimination of millions of girls and women from India’s population, and hold the government of India accountable for failing to protect the lives of its female citizens.

We further contend, on grounds of human rights, that immediate and effective action be taken by the government, through the implementation of rapid action task forces, to halt this femicide. We also insist the government officially commit to a time-line within which the associated practices of female feticide, female infanticide and dowry murders will be effectively arrested through the rigorous enforcement of existing laws and a stringent accountability on the part of India’s hospitals, government offices, and law enforcement agencies.

We further urge international human rights bodies and other governments to join in this effort to persuade the government of India to acknowledge and honor the call of this petition.

For 6 years, we at The 50 Million Missing Campaign have been working hard to tell the world about the ongoing female gendercide in India which has killed about 50 million women in the country in 3 generations through practices like infanticide, feticide, deliberate starvation and neglect of girl under 6 years, dowry murders, bride 'trafficking,' "honor" killings, and "witch" hunts.

It is our goal now to get large global mandate, of at least a million people to demand official accountability and action to stop female genocide in India through the systematic, and accountable implementation of existent laws. If you are visiting the cause for the first time please look through the information we've provided on our two blogs below --

  1. Update #1

    Posted on Jan 16

Please note on January 16, an email was sent out by The "It's a Girl" on Causes where a message was sent on behalf of "The 50 Million Missing Campaign" on Causes. We have no idea how this was even technically possible! But we consider this a violation of the integrity of our campaign and cause. And we have requested the Causes team to ensure that this does not happen again.

"Braveheart Passes Away" R.I.P. My condolences go out to her family and friends.

The gang-rape of a 23-year-old student in a moving bus on the night of December 17 in the capital city of Delhi has died. I am deeply saddened to hear of passing and continues to do so, I can't stop thinking of her, and how she was betrayed by these people, and now she is gone. The gang-rape of a 23-year-old student in a moving bus on the night of December 17 in the capital city of Delhi has died. I am deeply saddened to hear of passing and continues to do so, I can't stop thinking of her, and how she was betrayed by these people, and now she is gone. I am very sad for her, but she is out of pain now. Sadly if she had lived she would have had to suffer pain all her life and would never have been able to have a normal sexual relationship again (or any) due to the physical and emotionaI damage done. I really hope the bastards who did this never know peace again.

Let her soul rest in peace but let her spirit ignite the anger we all have against this crime against women. It could have been your Daughter, Sister, Mother, Friend, we all have a duty to prevent this happening again, whatever our origin or religion.

With respect, can I add that it's a crime against humanity, not just women. My heart is so heavy and I am so angry for her, and for everyone of these reported cases, there are so many that go unreported. If there is any justice, these "bastard scums of the earth" will hopefully get a taste of their own medicine while in jail. They like to rape, well I hope that they like being raped, because my wish is that they all be raped everyday, right up until the day that they die, and I hope that it is a painful death.

Execution is too merciful. Throw them in rat infested damp mouldy cells and let the other inmates know what they did. Let them never see the light of day.

Karma is a bitch!

Don't tell me to pray to GOD, god had nothing to do with this rape. You don't need religion to have MORALS! If you can't determine right from wrong, then you lack EMPATHY, not religion! The horrors continue. "Teen commits suicide after police pressure her to drop "GANG RAPE" case, they told her to "MARRY ATTACKER"!?!? Which one should she marry? What's going on in India? "MEN", that is what is wrong with India, not all of them, but men are a huge problem! I will not buy anything made in INDIA until they fix this problem! POS they are. They need a change in government, someone who will change the laws, ASAP! Disgusting scum they are, they have "NO SHAME''. I will never ever visit India for this reason, it's "NOT SAFE".

Sandy London

The terrible incident in India is like the curate's egg, good in parts but not so good in others. Yes, the poor girl is now shown to be a victim of a notoriously inept police and judicial system. We must hope that her suffering will generate changes to attiudes and laws concerning violence against women and girls in India. And I include in that the atrocious practice of aborting female babies.

I do take issue with the claim that the same crime is happening in every nation. Yes, rape and acts of violence do occur in other countries but to my knowledge the various police and judicial systems heap penalty on the perpetrators, and unlike in India, communities consider such acts as heinous to the extreme (and don't knowingly accept that rapists be allowed to remain within their communities).

India has a real and identifiable problem that is not extant in other laws-abiding countries. The caste system, which should have been outlawed a long time ago, is one such example. But it is the general attitudes within Indian communities regarding women and girls, and a strong disinclination to hunt down and punish its young men who commit the crimes (something that have been reported widely), that warrants deep soul-searching by government and communities. Something must change within the Indian peoples' psyche. Change, I believe, will come but it will be at the hands of the younger generations. For me, it has been heartening to observe many young men in the protesting crowds. It may be those young men who will be the vanguard of change in India. I have enough faith in India's youth to force attitudinal change to ensure that the poor young girls' fate was not in vain.

I would be fortunate to be a part to end the Female genocide, not only because I am a woman, a daughter, a wife, a daughter-in-law, a mother; but as a human being-the most responsible species. How could people think of existence of life without a woman, who is the origin? How could they destroy the root from whom they have originated? How could people think to change God’s wish to come to earth? I think people of these so called modern days want to make a world of men only in which gay...

How could people think of existence of life without a woman, who is the origin? How could they destroy the root from whom they have originated? How could people think to change God’s wish to come to earth? I think people of these so called modern days want to make a world of men only in which gay marriage is now allowed, what ‘s the need of a woman then? Sick men, their sick thoughts, their sick acts, everything has just become sick. Be bold and let’s remove this sickness. Not just stop the murder of the female which has not yet come to earth, but I also want to stop the murder of a girl’s childhood by abusing, want to stop the murder of her soul, murder for dowry, murder by rape, murder of her career, murder of her rights, murder of her being a respectable person, murder of her smile, her dreams, her life…. I just want to beg God, Please let us LIVE, this is our earth too.

LEADERS IN ALL COUNTRIES SHOULD LEARN THAT A WOMAN IS THE MOTHER OF A NATION, HOWEVER SOFT AND TENDER A WOMAN IS, SHE IS A GREAT PILLAR THAT HOLDS THE NATION STRONG AND STANDING. IN BIOLOGY, A WOMAN HAS A LOT OF NATURAL DUTIES AND PAINS! 3 DAYS OF PAIN EACH MONTH, 9 MONTHS OF CONCEPTION, AND YEARS OF BREAST FEEDING AND BRINGING UP YOUNG ONES, WOMEN ARE ALSO A CRITICAL ROLE IN NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AS THEY HOLD VERY TIGHT POSITIONS. A WOMAN IS MORE DETERMINED ON DUTY, THEY KEEP A LOT OF SECRETS AND SERVE! VIOLATING RIGHTS OF A WOMAN IS EVIL, BETRAYAL, HYPOCRISY! HE WHO DOES IT IS AN ENEMY TO THE NATION, AND THE FUTURE OF OUR WORLD! PEOPLE LETS STAND TOGETHER FOR RIGHTS OF A WOMAN!

Neera Chhibber
