Celebrating Earth Day 2012

Millions of people around the world will be celebrating their love and appreciation for the only home we know in this universe: Earth! April 22, 2012 is Earth Day and enthusiasts (um, all of us like earth, yes?) will participate by raising awareness around keeping this splendid planet a great place for us all to enjoy.

According to the official Earth Day website:

"Earth Day 1970 achieved a rare political alignment, enlisting support from Republicans and Democrats, rich and poor, city slickers and farmers, tycoons and labor leaders. The first Earth Day led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts. "It was a gamble," Gaylord recalled, "but it worked."

So, wonderful earth-lover, I'm asking you to submit photos illustrating how you will be participating in Earth Day 2012! I, for one, will try harder to remember that disposable plastic produce bags are totally unnecessary. Zucchinis in a bag? No! Mangos in a bag! No, no! Lettuce in a bag? Yes...but in a reusable produce bag. :) So I'll take a picture and upload it!

And maybe you're celebrating in your own way, too.
- Are you buying an energy efficient light bulb for the first time?
- Did you leave your car in the driveway and ride your bicycle to work?
- Or perhaps you've decided to grow your own tomatoes in your backyard!
- Maybe you're using this day as an excuse to go on that awesome hike you've been talking about!

Whatever you're doing, I imagine it's pretty cool. So take a photo of your bicycle swag, or your cool new tote bag you bought for carrying your mangos, or the breathtaking view from that hill you finally managed to climb. We all want to see, because we're all connected. There is, after all, only one earth to share.

Thanks for reading!

Best,
Alex

Our Mother - The earth ♥ In the deepness of the universe, flatters of deep black velvet and in front of sparkling stars live a wonderful and incredible beautiful lady. She is so little and fragile. She is wrapped in wonderful robes in blue, white and green. Her beauty radiate far out in the darkness of the universe. She is like a precious jewel. Her body is perfect formed. She is delicate and graceful. Her blue and white skin so thin, so fragile. She is so old, before millions of years born but to the same time she is so young. Like a young girl, so alive and full of sensuality and life. She is like a virgin, so clear in her beauty and to the same time a loving mother. She is the home of billions of living beings. And all this beings she embrace full of love. Every beat of her heart give us life, like the umbilical cord by a human mother. This wonderful blue lady is our mother. We should love her like she love us

Was very encouraged indeed that even the youngest in my family, Dennise, only 7 years old, observed Earth day. She switched off the TV & went around the house switching off all the rest of electrical items & lit candles in the house. Instead of staying in, she encouraged the whole family to take a walk in the park & we "obeyed". Our whole family enjoyed the walk & our laughter filled the air. Jan - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

On Earth day, I shut off my cell phone and went for a bike ride around the city. It was a beautiful day and all I was drinking was water out of my water bottle not the plastic bottles.
