Don't allow animal abuse on farms to be covered up!

To: State lawmakers

It should not be illegal to record videos or take photos on farms to expose animal cruelty. The public should be assured that food from farms is safe to eat and that animals haven’t been unnecessarily harmed in the process. Say no to the Ag Gag laws!

In the United States, 99% of food animals are raised in factory farms, an enterprise that produces a huge amount of waste and crowded conditions that are often filthy and inhumane. Such conditions can sometimes lead to sickness in both the animals and the people who the animals are intended to feed.

Investigators from animal rights groups have revealed abuses like dairy cows beaten to death, and pigs being sexually assaulted. A 2008 expose of mishandled sick cows led to the largest meat recall in U.S. history and investigations into egg farms have resulted in recalls for salmonella.

There have been bills introduced in seven states to allow these abuses to be covered up by making investigations into farms and animal facilities illegal. Kansas, Utah, North Dakota and Iowa already have such laws in place. These “Ag Gag” laws would have made the investigations in 2008 that led to the recall of potentially tainted meat illegal.

These laws seek to cover up animal abuse rather than instate more humane farm conditions. There should continue to be public visibility into how our food is produced and how animals are treated in the process. Investigators, journalists and activists have a right to do their job to keep our food supply safe.

Thank you for signing the petition to oppose 'Ag Gag' laws. We met our goal for this petition with over 6,000 signatures! By letting lawmakers know that you believe animal rights activists and investigators should be able to do their jobs, you’ve taken a stand against animal cruelty.

To take the next step, you can send a thank-you message to PETA undercover investigators -- these people have painfully endured witnessing animal cruelty to bring these terrible practices to an end. Send them...

Animal cruelty cannot be tolerated. It makes me sick to my stomach to think they do these things.

I'm sure if people were m ore aware of where and how animals were treated in order to put meat on their table there would be less meat eaters. The industry needs to be accountable. All we need to do is start asking questions. I do believe what goes around comes around.

I hardly eat meat anymore.... poor things I just can't bare it:(

Anyone see FoodInc.? Even animals are mass produced

I can't see how you can create a law to make it legal to cover up illegal acts? We need to make sure whom ever sponsored this bill never gets re-elected!

I keep telling you that the country is ran by corporations!

Tammy Cavinder I know this, but can you see my confusion, they say it is illegal to fail to report a crime, and them tell you it is illegal to report a crime, which is it ?

What you don't know CAN harm you. I loathe cruelty in all forms, but that is me, my personal feeling. However, gag laws are put in place to protect the profits, based on the misery of animals, of the factory "farmers". The gag laws are not to protect the public, so why were they put into law? What did the lawmaker(s) receive to put those laws, who do not protect the public, into place? For your own, your family's, and the animals' sake, stand up against corruption and stand up against stupid laws.

How could a human being be so deliberate in causing pain, and think its funny when the living animal is crying or moaning in pain? This has to be stopped, try veganism.

this is awful! seriously, what is with these people, that take their aggression/anger out on poor defenseless animals? These people are probably powerless in their own lives, so they treat these animals so poorly to feel so powerful-wish someone would do this s... tio them!

Here's the thing that none of you people are getting. Not all farmers treat their animals cruelly! A few bad apples have spoiled the entire image of the industry! It doesn't make sense for farmers to treat their animals badly! That's their livelihood. It's how they make their living. If they treated their animals cruelly they would be loosing money! I'm not saying that it doesn't happen and there are bad, misguided people out there that need to be held accountable for their actions, but the...
