At Purrfect Pals, we are dreamers. We dream of a world where no cats are unnecessarily euthanized in animal shelters. Yes, we are a no-kill shelter, but we are unable to take in every homeless cat in need and it breaks our hearts to think of how many end up in public shelters and are at risk of never making it out.

According to the ASPCA, approximately 5 million to 7 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year, and approximately 3 million to 4 million are euthanized (60 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats). Some of these cats are old, sick or feral. But sadly, many are young, friendly, loving and just plain unlucky. When public shelters are overcapacity, they are forced to start making tough decisions. They start with the cats who are the least adoptable...the black ones, the older ones, the ones who need medical care. But no cat is safe, not even the kittens. The only solution we came up with of is to reduce the number of unwanted cats and kittens who end up in shelters by preventing unwanted litters.

This year, our goal is to alter 1000 cats and kittens in the Free Spay and Neuter Clinic at our Arlington shelter. We work hard to stretch every dollar, but each spay and neuter surgery still costs us roughly $30. Female cats can go into heat as early as four months old and can have up to three litters of kittens a year. Think of how many thousands of kittens we could prevent through our spay and neuter program!

Please help us reach our goal by sponsoring a spay and neuter surgery today!

Update on August 06, 2012

This week we will spend more than $1200 to provide spay and neuter surgeries for feral cats and cats with low-income owners. Would you be willing to help us continue to offer this much-needed service? Every dollar helps. Thank you!
