International Justice Mission is a human rights agency that brings rescue to victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. Every day, IJM lawyers, investigators and aftercare professionals work with local governments to:
• rescue victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other violent abuse
• ensure long-term aftercare for survivors
• prosecute perpetrators under local laws
• transform public justice systems to protect entire communities.
IJM’s work on behalf of individual children and families confronts aggressive violence — violence that steals dignity and health from children trafficked into forced prostitution, strips widows and orphans of their homes and hope, and denies freedom and security to families trapped in slavery.
By partnering with local authorities to protect the poor, IJM is changing the fear equation: Now criminals are afraid, so the poor no longer need to fear them. The model is working. After four years of IJM work in Cebu, the Philippines, outside experts found a stunning 79% drop in the availability of children for commercial sexual exploitation.
Highlighted by U.S. News and World Report as one of 10 non-profits "making a difference," the work of IJM's global team of lawyers, investigators and aftercare professionals has been featured by The New York Times, Foreign Affairs, National Public Radio and CNN, among many other outlets.
IJM’s vision is to rescue thousands, protect millions and prove that justice for the poor is possible.
