Mobilize.org Target 2020 California Summit - Application Open

With more than 3 million students enrolled each year, California community colleges comprise the largest system of higher education in the country. But each year, only three out of 10 California community college students achieve their educational goals. What happens when the other seven students fall behind? Without the proper training and development, students, communities and the state will continue to realize the economic consequences of an unprepared workforce. And as the state’s largest source for workforce development and training, the current completion rate of California’s community college students puts everyone’s future at risk.

In April 2011, Mobilize.org will convene 100 Millennials from community colleges in northern California (http://mobilize.org/2011/01/northern-california-community-colleges/) to discuss the challenges they face in completing their education and collaborate on sustainable community solutions to address them. During the summit, Target 2020 participants will work together to brainstorm, prioritize and propose top solutions to address barriers facing college completion. If you are a student enrolled in a northern California community college, who has faced or overcome difficulties in completing your education and you have creative ideas about ways you, your community and school can better support students, Mobilize.org wants to hear from you.

Apply to attend the Target 2020 Democracy 2.0 Summit (http://www.mobilize.org/target2020CA) in San Jose, California, April 15 - 17, 2011, where you will join 100 students from northern California’s community colleges to identify barriers students face in achieving their educational goals, develop student-led solutions to address them and have the chance to win an award from Mobilize.org to turn your idea into a campus or community project.

All selected participants will also receive meals, a stipend to cover their travel to the summit and two-night hotel accommodations, provided by Mobilize.org.
