My name is Elizabeth Henry and I live in Washington State. I am working very hard with my daughter to turn around a horrible situation. My daughter has two boys, 15 and 13 with an abuser. During the course of the past two years these boys have ended up in the custody of their father. My daughter and our entire family have been fighting, and fighting to keep our heads above water.

…My name is Elizabeth Henry and I live in Washington State. I am working very hard with my daughter to turn around a horrible situation. My daughter has two boys, 15 and 13 with an abuser. During the course of the past two years these boys have ended up in the custody of their father. My daughter and our entire family have been fighting, and fighting to keep our heads above water.
Recently we have learned that this man is physically and mentally abusing these boys. With our resources (over $7000.) paid to an attorney who didn't really do much and as a matter of fact aided in these boys being placed with their father.
My daughter's ex and the father of these boys has over 5 incidents of DV situation which Auburn PD have responded to. The most recent was two weeks ago, when the Auburn PD removed the boys from their father's house, notified CPS, CPS came to pick up the boys and returned them to their mother (my daughter). This incident was over a C in a class and when the father began to swear and poke the 15 yr old in the chest, the 15 yr old told him to stop doing that and blocked one of his pokes. The father punched our dear sweet Derrick in the face with a closed fist. Derrick fought back and soon the 13 year old jumped in to protect his brother from being punched again. The step mother stopped the younger boy and told him he would be sorry if he ever said anything to anyone. Our Derrick went to school two days later and told his counselor. This resulted in a report to the police and CPS removing the boys. Currently the case has been forwarded to King County Prosecutor for charges.
The boys were so happy they were home with their mother and thought this was the final straw. Finally someone listened to them. The following day my daughter and grandson's had to go to CPS office to construct a safety plan. When my daughter arrived with the boys, they were immediately separated while the boys were trying to hold onto their mother's arm and screaming please Mom don't let them do this, please Mom help, help. My daughter was restrained and the boys taken away. Her ex was there with his attorney and painted my daughter as the evil unfit Mother.
The boys were placed overnight with their step grandparents. By Friday (the next day) the boys were returned to their abusive father because the father agreed to in house family counseling through CPS.
Our family was devastated. I reached out to Chuck and Judy Cox, Father and Mother of Susan Powell who is presumed murdered by her husband and the grandparents of two young boys murdered by their father in Puyallup Washington. I told Chuck and Judy our situation and they agreed to help us, I did this because my grandson's told me if they were ever sent back to that house they would hurt themselves. They said they feel no love, no emotion, and are made to sit at a table for an entire day, days on end because of anything less than a B or an A in any classes. Recently my grandson (15) had to cancel his homecoming plans and was made to sit at a table facing a wall because he received a C in one of his classes. He was not allowed to look around the room or talk to anyone during his week long punishment.
This past week the boys told us that their father was mad because they reported this recent incident and now refuses to let either one of them play or try out for school basketball. They know once again they are paying for trying to seek help for their abusive family life.
Chuck and Judy Cox referred us to their attorney, Steve Downing. Today my daughter met with Steve for almost 2 hours. Steve gave April homework to do and then his fight to reverse this injustice would begin.
Our problem is help with the $2500.00 retainer fee. My savings, 401K and life insurance have been exhausted with the court cost and the fees of this other attorney we had. I know Steve wants to get to work on this and found many inconsistencies in the information he was able to pull up on this case.
Chuck and Judy have another resource they are going to contact and try to see if they can help us with this case. I do not want my grandson's to end up like Chuck and Judy's. I fear how this will escalate and where will it end for my two babies.
Please, please can you help us. I am sure Steve Downing would be willing to speak with anyone and we would gladly have any assistance go directly to Steve.
